ANXIETY & DEPRESSION

Anxiety, which often leads to depression, was designed by nature to promote action through the avoidance of the intense discomfort it creates. Anxiety and depression stem from a number of sources these days and can be managed with loving support and skills development.

“I am not what happened to me. I am what I choose to become.” – Carl Jung

PARENTING ISSUES, FAMILY CONFLICTS & PARENT COACHING

Parenting is one of the most challenging jobs any of us will ever take on. I provide support in helping you and your family examine your values, reduce power struggles, increase cooperation and emotional regulation, implement routines, improve parent-child bonds, and fortify executive function.

“How you love yourself is how you teach others to love you.” – Rupi Kaur

ADHD

This frustrating mismatch between ability and performance can be supported with routines and cognitive strategies.

“You alone are enough. You have nothing to prove to anyone.” – Maya Angelou

RELATIONSHIPS & DIVORCE

Core relationships can become adversarial when obstacles arise, and needs are unmet. Productive communication strategies can help identify and create gratifying connections. If divorce is the next step, we will work to process the event, reclaim a sense of identity, craft new life goals, and find ways to minimize negative impacts on children.

“Vulnerability is not weakness; it’s our most accurate measure of courage.” – Brene Brown

Clinical Approaches

CLIENT-CENTERED THERAPY:
You are the expert of your own experience. As your counselor, I’m here to reflect patterns, themes, and strengths back to you so you can gain wisdom and insight into what needs shifting in your life. In this safe, non-judgmental relationship, you can find freedom to initiate the next steps toward positive, productive change.

COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (CBT)
This structured process helps you quickly become aware of negative or inaccurate thoughts, feelings, and actions. When we challenge or reframe limiting patterns, we alter how we feel and promote productive behaviors. When we can alter one of these, we can change the rest.

MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING
Sometimes, you already know what you need to do; you want to act, but the obstacles feel overwhelming and your energy, inaccessible. Motivational Interviewing helps you tap into your strengths, cultivate optimism, and move forward.

SOLUTION-FOCUSED THERAPY
This goal-oriented approach seeks to create ease by solving problems. Together, we will focus on your strengths, explore reframing limiting mindsets, and find new approaches to recurring pitfalls so you can achieve your goals.

What to Expect in Therapy:

Together, in a HIPAA-compliant, secure, virtual, counseling setting, we will explore different perspectives and expand your toolset and strategies for confronting life’s biggest hurdles. If needed, we can dive into experiences, biases, core beliefs, and early wounding. Together, we will correct cognitive distortions and find fresh avenues that lead toward healing, stability, and freedom.

While you set the tone and pace of our sessions together, I understand that therapy is an investment and should therefore be productive. After your initial, free, 15-minute consultation, we will schedule a 90-minute session to dive deeper into your background, family history, strengths, and issues that bring you to counseling. We’ll then set goals and identify steps to measure your progress and help you achieve your definition of success.

During our sessions, I will check in often to see if I’ve heard you clearly and will monitor and adjust my approach so that you see positive, productive change. When we are not in session, I encourage you to set aside time for reflection, journaling and exploring new perspectives. Remember that this is your journey, and that you are the expert on your life. I’m simply here to help steer you hopeward.

Some questions that might arise in our online counseling sessions include:

What happened?
What needs mending, improvement, or recognition?
What can be done to help the situation?
Is my situation legitimate, normal, and/or to be expected?
Am I worthy?
Is change possible?
What is going well?
What can I build upon?
How can I understand better?
How will understanding improve how I feel, my sense of agency, and my enjoyment?
